OGSG MOVES TO DIGITALISE ITS EDUCATION SYSTEM

 


Ogun State Government has said it will not rest on its oars until the process of teaching and learning, as well as management of its education system is totally digitalised for efficiency of the sector.


 Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu disclosed this during a 3-Day Virtual Teacher Training and Professional Development, tagged, "Teaching with Technology and Remote Learning", organised by the Ministry in partnership with TedPrimeHUB, Microsoft Partner for 500 selected primary and secondary school teachers in the State.


Prof. Arigbabu said a robust education sector portal system had been launched through the ogsera platform, with the total removal of human manipulation or direct physical processing of operations in the Ministry, in order to remain relevant in education activities.


He added that through the portal, learners would have access to obtain forms into primary schools, saying ‘’registration for Basic Education Certificate Examination is possible, processing of application forms into any of the 42 flagship schools have also been made possible, while parents can have access to the report cards of their children through the portal system.


"It is the commitment of the Prince Dapo Abiodun led-administration to continue to engage in activities that may serve as motivation to teachers in having what it requires for quality service delivery with the interest of improving learners’ outcomes", he posited.


The Commissioner stated that the training was a preparatory step towards empowering teachers for the task ahead and exposing them to the digital learning process, urging the participants to maximise the opportunity for self-improvement.


Earlier in his welcome address, the Director of Education, Department of Planning, Research and Statistics, Mr. Ezekiel Adewunmi said the virtual engagement of teachers was in fulfillment of the Microsoft Nigeria Limited’s promise to expand the scope of partnership with the Ministry at the time when all efforts were geared towards revitalisation of the education sector, leveraging on technology.


In his presentation, one of the resource persons, Mr. Lekan Adeeko, who spoke on the importance of remote learning, submitted that the training would expose participants to leverage on Microsoft 365 licence to enhance teaching activities with the use of PowerPoint and Microsoft Forms for data gathering.
