OGUN GOV. CALLS FOR SYNERGY AMONG PRINCIPALS TO TACKLE IMMORALITIES

 


Principals under the aegis of the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS) have been charged to work together, reflect on the rising rate of immoralities in schools and work out modalities to tackle the menace in the interest of the society.


The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun gave the charge in Abeokuta during the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS) South West Mandatory Continuing Professional Training (MCPT) with the theme, " Emerging Administrative and Management Innovations and Techniques for Handling Contemporary Issues and Challenges in Secondary Education.


The Governor noted that secondary schools were at the center of the education system, adding that any challenges that arises in the primary education should be corrected at the secondary level, hence, the need for the Principals to inculcate moral values, and engage them in handiwork and craft that would develop and make them self-discipline and independent.


He said, "As you share experiences on how to build the school curriculum, let us also reflect on the rising level of immoralities and how to tackle it in the collective interest of our peace, security, and societal development”.


Abiodun revealed that his administration in the last 38 months had intervened in the education sector through the renovation of over a thousand schools and provision over 25,000 desks and chairs, regular promotion of primary and secondary teachers, the set up of Ogun State Central  Education Management Information System to allow for data gathering, analysis, and presentation, as well as the introduction of  Optical Memory Recorder (OMR) sheet, to improve the conduct of Basic Education Certificate Examination, among others, saying the government would soon launch an Education Trust Fund, as intervention from the Universal Basic Education Board was inadequate for the State.


Abiodun while charging the school principals to ensure discipline in their various schools and the society at large, urged parents and guardians to cooperate with school administrators in the upbringing of their children.


In her welcome address, the Ogun State President, ANCOPSS, Dr. Olubunmi Womiloju  said that the Mandatory Continuing Professional Training (MCPT) was aimed at ensuring that Principals in public secondary schools in the country were well equipped to make them efficient in administrative management.


Dr. Womiloju added that Principals should be dynamic and have the required skills to cope with the 21st century administrative management for increased productivity, appreciating Governor Abiodun for revamping the education sector.


Earlier in his remark, the National President, ANCOPSS, Alhaji Mohammed Musa, represented by Treasurer of the Association, Mr. Emmanuel Aremu said the training was a unique exercise, which would help to equip Principals with modern administrative knowledge to run their various schools.
