....To commission Block of Classrooms.
Ijebu Ode Local Government has commence Operation Zero Potholes, as the Local Government begins rehabilitation of Roads and distilling of drainages across towns in Ijebu Ode.
The Chairman, Ijebu Ode Local Government, Alhaji Babatunde Emilola-Gazal, made this known during an interview with newsmen in his Office.
Emilola-Gazal said there is need to ensure that the roads are motorable and pothole-free, saying this prompted Operation " No Potholes" in Ijebu Ode.
" We want to ensure that the roads are good, at least motorable. We are touching a number of roads. We started at the frontage of Oke-nla house, Saka-Ashiru road; also the road leading to Ijebu Ode Club, Oke-Suna street, Balogun Kuku (Paramount Cinmea) road, Alapo street and Omo-owo road. The front of Our lady of Apostle School is not left behind. We are doing a major rehabilitation of the NTA road, which runs to Igbeba; we are at the same time distilling the drainage.
The first stage of the road rehabilitation is spreading the hardcore. We shall put stonebase and see if we can put asphalt on some of these roads. Beyond this, the State Government will soon commence the full rehabilitation of some roads across the Local Government. For now, the Local Government is funding the rehabilitation, the Council Boss said.
The Chairman also warned residents to desist from dropping gabbage into drainages as it blocks the drainage.
" Our People should stop throwing their refuse into the drainage, especially during the raining season, because they block the drainages and makes flood to overflow on to the roads. Sadly, water is not a friend of bitumen, it causes cracks and potholes on some of roads. My appeal to our people is to desist from that habit" He said.
In the same vein, the Chairman also hinted that Porogun Primary School, built in 1940, has been totally rehabilitated and is ready for handing over. He said the project is 99 percent completed.
Emilola-Gazal said the school was in a total state of dilapidation; the roofs were totally leaking, the classroom were not good enough.
In his words " The Governor gave us some funds for projects and we decided that the school is a project worth embarking upon. A total of 6 classrooms, two offices were completely rehabilitated. We completely change the roofs, windows and doors and gave the school a good facelift.
The Council Boss revealed that the block of classrooms project is ready for commisioning and that the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and his counterpart in the Ministry of Education will witness the Commisioning of the project on Tuesday, October 4, 2022.
