OGUN SCORED HIGH IN ‘TEACH FOR NIGERIA’ PROGRAMME

 


          Ogun State Government has been identified as the first and the best partnering State in Teach For Nigeria (TFN) Programme, among other States in the Federation, especially under the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration.


          The Chief Executive Officer (CEO), TFN, Miss Folawe Omikunle said this in Abeokuta, during a stakeholders’ engagement with education participants in the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Ogun State Universal Education Board (SUBEB), saying” the incredible partnership enjoyed from the State government since introduction of the programme in 2017 had recorded numerous successes’’.


          Miss Omikunle said since the partnership with the State, about 60,000 learners have been reached in both public primary and secondary schools where TFN fellows were placed, impacted over 17,000 existing teachers through training programme and organise School Leadership Development (SLD) programme that serves in different leadership capacities and driving improved learning outcomes in schools across the State.


          Folawe Omikunle said, collectively, we will ensure our students, regardless of socio-economic background, attain excellence, fulfill their potentials and become leaders of themselves and the communities at large".


          Responding, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu submitted that Teach For Nigeria was a non-profit organisation with the passion to ensure that every child in the State has access to quality education, appreciating the CEO and her team for creating result oriented impacts on the lives of learners.


          Prof. Arigbabu revealed that the Prince Dapo Abiodun government since inception have contributed immensely to the academic development of learners, adding that the government was committed to training and retraining teachers in new methodology to further enhance enviable standard that the State was known for when it comes to quality education.


          "We've started what we call, Ogun State Education Revitalisation Agenda, to transform the situation of education in the State and the result is already showing. I want to assure you that as long as I'm here I will always ensure Teach For Nigeria realises its dream", the Commissioner said.


          Speaking, the Chairman, TESCOM, Evang. Olalekan Ifede, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mrs. Abosede Ogunleye and her counterpart in TESCOM, Dr. AbdulWaheed Olanloye, lauded TFN for going beyond the classroom to solve the problems of learners, acknowledging values the programme was adding to the lives of learners in the State.
