A passenger train travelling from Kaduna to Abuja derailed on Tuesday morning.

The incident occurred along the busy Kaduna–Abuja corridor.

Reports have it that some cabins were overturned, resulting in passengers scrambling to safety.

Although details remain sketchy, it was not immediately confirmed whether any casualties were recorded.

The cause of the derailment is yet to be ascertained. However, authorities have in the past linked frequent disruptions on the route to vandalism and activities of scavengers.

The Kaduna–Abuja railway, has faced multiple challenges in recent years. In March 2022, the line was targeted in a deadly attack by armed men, resulting in several fatalities and abductions.

As of press time, officials of the Nigerian Railway Corporation and security agencies had yet to issue any statement on Tuesday’s incident.

Meanwhile, reports have it that military personnel have been deployed to the site to assist in evacuating stranded passengers.
