Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has described the wife of the late sage, Mrs Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo as a woman whose faith, resilience and service to humanity remain etched in the annal of history and therefore remain a symbol of our proud heritage.
Governor Abiodun stated this at the 10th Memorial Anniversary and Patronal Day for the late Mrs HID Awolowo held at Our Saviour' s Anglican Church, Ikenne- Remo, Ogun State
The Governor who was represented by the State Head of Service, Mr Kehinde Onasanya described the occasion as a celebration a life that was not only well - lived but also poured out in service to God, family and humanity.
According to him, Mama HID was indeed a precious gift to her generation and a shining example of grace, strength and Godly devotion, adding that she was a faithful wife and partner who stood as pillar to her husband through trials and triumphs.
" Her devotion was steadfast, proving that faith and loyalty are greater than circumstances", Gov. Abiodun said.
He noted that the life of mama Awolowo pointed to the fact that leadership is not only about politics or power but about service, adding that she led with humility, nurtured with wisdom and stood as a rock of support in turbulent times.
"The ISEYA pillar of our Administration represents the values and principles embodied by the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, given the context of HID's life and legacy ", the Governor noted
He rejoiced with the children and grandchildren for organising the memorial service for mama and charged them to continue to be shining lights carrying forward the ideals of faith, sacrifice and commitment to humanity that Mama HID lived and died for.
Earlier in his memorial sermon themed " Remembrance that Evokes Gratitude" the Diocesan Bishop of Remo, Rt. Rev. Dr. Olusina Fape said coming together to celebrate ones patriarch or matriarch is a time to reflect on their lifes when on earth, pointing out that the Awolowos lived a good life and left indelible legacy
Bishop Fape said Papa and Mama were like Siamese twins that represented a righteous life, integrity, transparency, honesty and selflessness and urged the descendants to follow their steps.
The only surviving child of the sage, Ambassador Olatokunbo Awolowo Dosunmu in her remarks said the service was deliberately designed and laid with hymns and sonorous songs to pay homage to mama whom she said loved music in her life time.
She thanked the clergymen, politicians, royal fathers, politically associates of papa, family members and dignitaries who came to honour her and mama and urged them to continue to lift the family up in prayer.
