Following the historic first commercial flight that took off at the Gateway International Airport , the atmosphere around the towns surrounding the GIA has changed as a vista of boundless opportunities have opened for business and other commercial activities.
Making this assertion was the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya at the Airport during an interview with journalists, noting that the agency under his watch had the singular opportunity of handling the construction process. He revealed that the Airport which was strategically situated along the busy Lagos-Ibadan expressway corridor, positioning it as a viable less congested alternative to Lagos, thus, directly opening the State to trade, investment, tourism, and global partnerships.
He highlighted key features such as the 4-kilometre runway, modern passenger terminals, cargo handling capabilities, and state-of-the-art security infrastructure. With its recent designation as a Free Trade Zone by the Federal Government, the airport is already attracting varying degrees of interest from local and international investors who are into tourism, trade and investment.
Engr. Akinsanya commended the project’s quality and adherence to international standards, saying that the runway quality, terminal design ranked among the best in Nigeria.
The inaugural commercial flight drew a wide array of dignitaries, including aviation stakeholders, traditional rulers, business leaders, and residents, all gathered to witness the historic first flight take off from the world-class facility. The atmosphere was electric filled with applause, celebration, and commendation across the board
