Speaking at the 2026 IMPACT Annual Work Plan Retreat in Abeokuta, Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, represented by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Kayode Oladehinde, revealed that the State had doubled its health budget, which was a bold move towards ensuring that healthcare reforms outlive donor support and become part of regular government operations.

She noted that, so far, Seventy Five (75) Primary Health Centers were being revamped, Two hundred and thirty Six (236) health facilities had gone digital and Four hundred and Seventy Two (472) health workers had been trained in data management and safety standards.

“These numbers represent real impact—lives saved, healthier communities, and stronger systems,” Dr. Coker said.

Looking ahead, the Commissioner revealed that the 2026 Work Plan would focus on five key areas to deepen progress, calling on all stakeholders to keep working together, saying: “The journey ahead is tough, but with teamwork, we would achieve even more for the people of Ogun.”

In her welcome address, the State Project Manager, IMPACT, Dr. Kofoworola Olajide, expressed gratitude for the State's inclusion in the project, which was aimed towards improving Primary healthcare services in the State

Dr. Olajide noted that the project focused on reducing maternal and childhood mortality, praising stakeholders for their dedication, while encouraging participants to approach the retreat with strategic focus and collaboration, emphasising that the foundations laid would yield sustainable progress and advance the health and well-being of the people in Ogun State.

In his remarks, Executive Secretary, Ogun State Primary Healthcare Development Board, Dr. Elijah Ogunsola, expressed profound appreciation to the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for his unwavering commitment to healthcare reform and transformation, lauding the Governor’s visionary leadership and the significant investments made in infrastructure, human resources and access to quality health services.

He noted that these "giant strides" had laid a solid foundation for improved health outcomes across the State, particularly in primary healthcare delivery.

Highlighting ongoing interventions, Dr. Ogunsola, drew attention to the IMPACT Project, a World Bank-supported initiative implemented in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health and the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), explaining that the project aimed towards reducing under-five mortality and drive transformative improvements in health service delivery at the Federal, State and Local Government levels.

“The focus is to enhance access to quality healthcare for women and children in selected States, which Ogun was proud to be among the beneficiaries of this critical intervention,” he said.

He also noted that the retreat was to bring together key stakeholders for a comprehensive review of project activities, saying the session was designed to assess achievements, identify challenges and jointly develop the 2026 Work Plan. emphasising that the engagement would be pivotal in addressing implementation bottlenecks and strengthening collaboration for more effective project outcomes that would ensure that every community is covered in the drive towards better healthcare access and delivery.

Reacting, Chairman of Health Secretaries in the State, Dr. Atinuke Duze, appreciated the growth which the IMPACT Project had brought to various health facilities across the LGAs, promising to deliver quality and good health services to the people.
