OGUN CULTURE COMMISSIONER CALLS FOR MORE DIGITALIZATION IN THE CREATIVE INDUSTRY

 


Ogun State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon Oluwasesan Fagbayi has advocated for more priority to be placed on the digitalization of cultural activities to promote economic growth.


The commissioner stated this during an interview with newsmen on the sidelines of the International Arts and Crafts Expo (INAC)2025 Investment Roundtable, at the ongoing INAC Expo in Abuja.


According to him, utilizing digital platforms to showcase cultural festivals and activities has so far been crucial to the success story of the Nation’s creativity initiatives, storytelling, and economy significantly.


Fagbayi encouraged all the 36 states of the federation to key into digitalization to promote the rich cultural heritage and potentials of the nation to further boost its economic growth.

 

The commissioner explained how digital innovation in the Ogun State-owned Olumo Rock has attracted more tourists and increased revenue of the state 

adding that the deployment of social media by the State has tremendously showcased some notable festivals in the state, such as Ojude Oba and Lisabi festival, to the global community.


He emphasized that it has become imperative for all states, organizations as well as other stakeholders in the sector to collaborate to further reposition Tourism and Culture towards making it a significant contributor to the nation's Gross Domestic Product.


The commissioner further underscored the importance of youth engagement in the Arts and culture as well as the creative industry, describing them as a significant driving force to achieving digital transformation.


 He noted that empowering young people with digital skills will not only boost creativity and job creation but also contribute significantly to the state and national economy.


The Director-General of the National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC), Obi Asika, urged stakeholders in the sector to continue projecting Nigeria’s stories through digital platforms to bring the world closer to the rich cultural heritage of the nation.


He said digital storytelling has the potential to generate revenue comparable to earnings from the oil sector.
