Akpabio Denies Insulting Trump Over Alleged Threat to Invade Nigeria

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has dismissed claims that he made a controversial remark insulting the United States President, Donald Trump.

The allegation surfaced after a statement went viral suggesting Akpabio responded harshly to Trump’s alleged threat to “invade Nigeria” over reported attacks on Christians.

Akpabio says he never issued such a comment in private or public. His media adviser, Hon Eseme Eyiboh, described the circulated post as fake and provocative.

Eyiboh said the viral message was entirely fabricated. He insisted that Akpabio did not have any conversation or release that matched the post. The platform responsible for sharing it has been asked to reveal its source.

Part of the clarification reads:

“Our attention has been drawn to a malicious and completely fabricated post… falsely attributing a reckless and imaginary statement to the President of the Senate….”

The false quote circulating online said:

‘The killing is taking place in Nigeria not in USA, Trump should focus on US. Nigerians are not complaining about the killings…’

Akpabio’s office described the claim as a deliberate attempt to cause tension between the Senate President and the former U.S. leader, as well as between Nigeria and foreign partners.

They also noted that a photo of Akpabio at an event was wrongly used to give the post credibility.

The Senate President, according to Eyiboh, respects global diplomatic relations and would never issue remarks on U.S. domestic affairs. The statement added that Akpabio regards Trump as “a historic figure and a leader of a great nation.”

The Senate President’s office urged the public to disregard the viral report and emphasized its commitment to accurate communication and constructive international engagement.
