The Task Force team from Ogun state Ministry of Environment has carried out a follow-up inspection at Kara Market, to assess compliance with the directive mandating a five-metre setback along the market corridor.
Acting Chairman of the Taskforce, Hon. Tolu Poviwhede, gave the information when the team made a follow up inspection to the market after two weeks of its earlier visitation where the market committee were mandated to give way for a 5-metre set back as part of the State government’s efforts to promote environmental safety, orderly trading and ease movement within the area especially at this festive season.
The Acting Chairman, who also doubles as the Special Assistant to the Governor on Environment, said the team discovered that some traders had encroached on the setback that was earlier created, despite prior warnings.
He said, “On our second visitation, we observed that some traders had again encroached on the five-metre setback we directed them to create during our last visit. Though the traders resisted initially but after due dialogue and deliberations, the 5-Meter setback was restored and full compliance were maintained’’.
Poviwhede stressed that the initiative was part of measures aimed at protecting lives, improving environmental standard as well as enduring free flow of traffic along the market corridor this festive season.
He urged traders and market leaders to support the State government environmental initiative by ensuring continuous compliance with all the laid down regulations.
