High Chief Rasheed Adeoye Adesanya, the Olisa of Ijebu-Ode, has paid a formal visit to the new Jaginrin, Chief Balogun Adegoke Olaoye, on the final day of his seclusion at Idele in Ijebu-Ode.
The Jaginrin is a highly revered chieftaincy position in Ijebu-Ode, playing a central role in one of the most sacred traditions of the Ijebu Kingdom during the coronation of a new Awujale.
Traditionally known as the Jaginrin of Ijebu-Ode, the title holds deep historical significance, as the entire coronation process begins and concludes with the Oloja Ejinrin chieftaincy family.
The position had been vacant for some time and, by tradition, must be filled before the selection and installation of a new Awujale of Ijebuland.
Speaking during the visit, the Olisa of Ijebu-Ode, High Chief Adesanya, said “I am here to pay him a visit on the final day of his seclusion as the new Jaginrin.
“This is the tradition and custom of Ijebuland. It must be done for him as the new Jaginrin. I pray for him to have long life; it shall be well with him.
The Jaginrin post must not be vacant, and it is not ascended during the lifetime of an Awujale on the throne. The title is filled only when a new Awujale is to be installed.
Jaginrin, Apebi, and Mogeesu are the chieftaincy titles that must be filled before the installation of a new Awujale.”
Also speaking, the new Jaginrin, Chief Balogun Adegoke, emphasized the importance of his office in the installation of a new Awujale, noting that the Jaginrin prays for the success of the incoming monarch’s reign and also serves as a political adviser to the Awujale.
“Today marks my final day in seclusion. I want to use this opportunity to thank the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun and the Awujale Interregnum Administrative Council for their support as I become the 10th Jaginrin,” he said.
