RE: ROAD TRAFFIC INCIDENT INVOLVING VEHICLE No KID 850 HN ALONG THE LAGOS–SAGAMU EXPRESSWAY

The Ogun State Ministry of Transportation (MoT) has taken note of reports circulating in the media regarding a road traffic incident at ‘ Danco area’  along the Lagos–Sagamu Expressway on Monday 29th Dec 2025.

The Ministry extends its heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, sympathises with all persons affected by the unfortunate and tragic incident and commend the swift action of the emergency services in response to the incident.

The Ministry wishes to clarify that investigations into the circumstances and probable cause(s) of the incident are currently ongoing. Information reported in sections of the media at this time largely represents preliminary eyewitness accounts, which remain interim and subject to verification.

Accordingly, members of the public are advised to exercise restraint and refrain from speculation or premature conclusions until the conclusion of investigations and the release of official findings by the relevant authorities.

The purpose of the ongoing investigation is not only to determine the immediate and underlying causes of the incident, but also to enable Government to identify appropriate preventive measures and further strengthen existing road safety interventions, with a view to preventing a recurrence of similar incidents along strategic transportation corridors within Ogun State.

Advisory to Road Users

Pending the outcome of investigations, the Ministry reiterates the following safety advisories to all road users:

• Drivers are urged to strictly observe prescribed speed limits, refrain from reckless driving, and comply fully with all traffic rules and regulations.

• Parking, stopping, or trading on highways and expressways is prohibited, except at duly designated facilities.

• Vehicle owners and operators must ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy, properly registered, and subjected to routine inspection.

• Drivers must possess valid licences and appropriate certification corresponding to the class of vehicle being operated.

• In emergency situations, road users are advised to promptly contact recognised emergency response agencies rather than resort to informal roadside interventions.

Ogun State Ministry of Transportation Safety Policy Direction

The Ogun State Ministry of Transportation remains resolutely committed to a comprehensive and coordinated road safety framework, which includes:

• The certification, regulation, and continuous monitoring of drivers and vehicles operating within the State.

• Active traffic control, patrols, and enforcement by the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) in conjunction with Federal Authorities.

• Prompt identification and remediation of road defects in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.

• Provision of road safety infrastructure as standard on all highway projects in the state

• Sustained collaboration with Federal authorities to eliminate roadside trading, indiscriminate parking, and other unsafe practices along highways and expressways.

• The deployment of data-driven and technology-enabled measures to enhance traffic flow and reduce crash risks on high-volume road corridors.

Immediate and Medium-Term Infrastructure Interventions

In furtherance of its proactive approach to traffic safety and freight management, the Ministry draws attention to the following ongoing and planned initiatives:

• The redevelopment of the Ogere Trailer Parks in partnership with the Federal Government.

• The provision of additional trailer parks along Ogun State’s Strategic Road Network to discourage roadside parking and improve freight regulation.

• The development of off-highway bus parks at Mowe and Ibafo, including the construction of an interchange along the Lagos–Sagamu Expressway, to enhance passenger safety and traffic efficiency.

• The strengthening of integrated transport infrastructure to better separate long-haul freight operations from local and commuter traffic.

• Recruitment and training of additional road traffic control, management and enforcement officers
