The First Lady of Ogun State, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, has pledged to support a 32-year-old mother of five, Mrs. Esther Shaibu, who was abandoned by her husband after giving birth to triplets on the 2nd of January, 2026.
She made the commitment during a visit to Iperu General Hospital in Ikenne Local Government Area, where the mother of 5 gave birth, promising to cover the family's upkeep for the immediate future, while she applauded the Federal Government's free maternal healthcare services in General Hospitals across the country for the succour it offers to the citizenry.
The First Lady also appreciated the medical team that attended to the woman, led by the Consultant Gynecologist, Dr. Olukayode Taiwo, for professionalism and high quality of care that ensured the survival of the children, born at 2.4kg, 1.5kg and 1.08kg respectively.
"I will inform the Governor about their situation and explore long-term economic support," Mrs. Abiodun said, emphasising the importance of early antenatal care, especially in high-risk cases like multiple births.
Mrs. Shaibu, who pleaded for employment for her husband and herself, had delayed her first antenatal visit until 28 weeks, highlighting the need for timely medical intervention.
