Senator Salisu Facilitates First Permanent Structure at Federal University of Medical Sciences, Abeokuta

ABEOKUTA — In a significant boost to the development of the proposed Federal University of Medical Sciences, Abeokuta, the Senator representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu (OMOYAYI), FNCS, has facilitated the construction of a modern Community Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Centre, the first completed structure on the institution's permanent site.

The landmark project is widely regarded as another demonstration of Senator Salisu's commitment to educational development, digital innovation, and infrastructure expansion within Ogun Central Senatorial District.

The ICT Centre, equipped to support digital learning, research, innovation, and capacity development, is expected to serve as a critical foundation for academic and administrative activities as efforts toward the full establishment and take-off of the Federal University of Medical Sciences gather momentum.

Stakeholders have described the project as a strategic intervention that not only reinforces advocacy for the university's development but also reflects Senator Salisu's vision of positioning Ogun Central as a hub for knowledge, technology, and human capital development.

Observers note that the project further underscores the Senator's unwavering support for the successful realization of the Federal University of Medical Sciences, Abeokuta, a federal institution expected to enhance medical education, research, healthcare delivery, and employment opportunities within Ogun State and beyond.

The newly completed ICT Centre adds to a growing list of developmental projects facilitated by Senator Salisu across the six local government areas that make up Ogun Central Senatorial District.

Beyond the university project, the lawmaker has facilitated the establishment of six additional ICT Centres strategically located across the senatorial district to promote digital literacy, technology-driven learning, entrepreneurship, and youth empowerment. The centres are designed to provide residents, particularly students and young professionals, with access to modern digital tools and opportunities in the rapidly evolving technology ecosystem.

Since assuming office, Senator Salisu has championed numerous constituency interventions spanning education, youth development, healthcare, skills acquisition, economic empowerment, infrastructure, and community development.

Beneficiaries and community leaders have consistently commended the Senator's focus on projects that deliver long-term value, particularly initiatives aimed at equipping young people with the skills required to compete in a technology-driven global economy.

Political observers have also noted that the Senator's interventions align with his responsibilities as Chairman of the Senate Committee on ICT and Cybersecurity, where he has continued to advocate policies and programmes that advance digital inclusion, innovation, and technological growth across Nigeria.

With the completion of the ICT Centre at the permanent site of the Federal University of Medical Sciences, Abeokuta, stakeholders believe the project will serve as a catalyst for further infrastructural development and accelerate efforts toward the institution's full operational take-off.

The development is seen as yet another milestone in Senator Salisu's ongoing commitment to delivering impactful projects and sustainable development initiatives across Ogun Central Senatorial District.
