WORLD BANK, OGSG MOVE TO REDUCE ROAD PROJECTS ABANDOMENT

The World Bank in collaboration with the Ogun State Government has trained engineers handling Rural Access and Agricultural Projects (RAAMP) from 13 supported States in the country including Ogun on Geographic Information System GIS, in order to deliver jobs to specifications and reduce road projects abandonment.

Commissioner for Rural Development in the State, Engr. Taiwo Oludotun, who spoke at the flag-off of a three-day training on Nigeria Rural Transport Information Management System (NITRIMS), said project abandonment would be drastically reduced when GIS applications are fully deployed.

"50 percent solution to the problem of abandoned projects is assured with this application. It aligns with the vision and mission of this government under the ISEYA mantra which starts with Infrastructure", Oludotun stated.

Earlier in his remark, the representative of National Coordinator of RAAMP, Engr. Bukar-Gana appreciated Ogun State Government for providing enabling environment for delivery of quality rural projects, adding that the outcome of the training would be useful beyond its life span.

Responding on behalf of other participants, the Regional Adviser on RAAMP for South, Engr. Alhassan Aliyu said the knowledge gained would be put to use in order to improve the living standard of rural dwellers.
