OGUN MINISRTY TAKES STEP TO EDUCATE STAFF ON ROAD SAFETY

 


The Ogun State Ministry of Rural Development has moved to ensure that its staff are conversant with the rudiments of road safety and vehicle documentation process in preventing crashes, particularly during ‘ember months’.


          The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Adetunji Kanimodo, while declaring open a day workshop for the staff at the Ministry’s premises in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, said the high rate of accidents recorded on the roads could be reduced when public and private organisations, as well as other relevant stakeholders support campaigns on road safety.


           Kanimodo stated that high premium is placed on the lives of members of staff in the Ministry, their relatives and associates, noting that the workshop would be an added advantage for any of them to follow the right channel to obtain vehicle documents through authorised agencies.


‘’The management of this Ministry is concerned about the welfare and wellness of the members of staff, their families and associates, that is why we consider it important to organise this relevant workshop on how best to process a valued driver's license and other related issues on road safety. This will enable them to be conversant with rudiments associated with road safety, to prevent crashes on the roads’’, the Permanent Secretary stated.


He charged the participants to be committed to their duties and comply with the rules and regulations guiding road usage, adding that they should extend the enlightenment to people within and outside their workplace.


In his presentation on the topic, ‘Safety Tips for Driver's Licence Applicants, the Superintendent Route Unit Commander, Ogun State Internal Revenue Service, Mr. Sunday Adeyemi, said it is beneficial for interested applicants willing to obtain genuine document to follow due process, for the overall development of the country, urging the staff of the Ministry to contribute their quota to the progress of the State, by paying necessary dues to the revenue agencies of government.


 Adeyemi who highlighted the steps which applicants should take in obtaining the driver’s licence to include, undergoing 26 training sessions (an hour per day) from a preferred driving school and Vehicle Inspection Office for issuance of learners permit and driving test certificates.


          Speaking on behalf other participants, the Deputy Director, Rural Electrification, Mr. Olaogun Peter and Miss Tobi Asenuga appreciated the Ministry for the workshop, assuring that the knowledge gained would be put in good use.
