OGUN CJ LISTS ATTRIBUTES OF A GOOD JUDGE TO INCLUDE WISDOM, OTHERS

The Chief Judge of Ogun State, Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu has listed the attributes of a good judge as to the one who protects the right of individuals against arbitrariness, listens courteously, answers wisely, and decides impartially with wisdom, courage as well as fairness.

Justice Dipeolu made this known at a valedictory court session in honour of Justice Olumuyiwa Olusanya on his retirement from the bench at the Ceremonial Court of the Judiciary Complex, Abeokuta.

The Chief Judge noted that Justice Olusanya had been a hardworking, dedicated, and loyal judge which he brought to the bench as a result of his wisdom and fairness, adding that he was trusted by the legal profession, judiciary, and the entire public.

Justice Dipeolu however, advised judges to exercise patience to hear all arguments of the contending parties to a dispute, before arriving at a wise decision pointing out "that an impatient judge could hardly act with reason".

In his remarks, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Oluwasina Ogungbade, SAN, represented by the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice, Mr. Bamidele Adebayo, described the retiring Judge as a man whose efficiency could be attested to and served the State meritoriously while on the bench.

Speaking on behalf of the Senior Advocates of Nigeria in Ogun State, Chief Seun Akinbiyi stated that Mr. Olusanya had contributed immensely to bridging gaps between the bar and the bench through his enthusiastic participation in all bar/bench forum programmes across the State.

In his response, the retiring Judge appreciated God for the years spent in service, stating that "you are a brilliant judge in the eyes of a winning party while you are something else on the other party", praying for protection and perfection for all others still in service.
