OGUN, FG TO TRAIN 2000 YOUTHS ON SKILL ACQUISITION

 


No fewer than 2000 youths in Ogun State are to benefit from a special project tagged T-Max, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme, aimed at lifting one hundred million people out of poverty by the year 2030.


The Programme, according to the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Education Intervention; Mr. Fela Bank-Olemah, would involve training of 15,000 youths, between the ages of 18 and 35 across seven states, namely, Lagos, Ogun, Edo, Enugu, Nasarawa, Gombe and Kaduna.


 Bank-Olemah revealed this when he was received by the Deputy Governor on behalf of Governor Dapo Abiodun, saying ‘’Project T-Max is a programme approved under the National Steering Committee on National Poverty Reduction and Growth Strategy (NPRGS)’’.


He noted that, close to eighteen skills ranging from ICT to engineering services would be taught respective applicants for a period three months, urging applicants from Lagos and Ogun State to visit, www.T-Max.ng from Thursday, September 1, 2022, for registration.


"One of the key things we are trying to achieve with this programme is to reduce poverty, so, we will be putting money into the hands of TVET centers. Another key thing is that the very best students will be getting starter packs, depending on the skills they are trained on’’, he said.


Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Technical and Vocational Education Board; Prof. Joseph Odemuyiwa, commended the Federal Government for the initiative, which he said would help to take youths off the street through vocational education, adding that the T-Max project is a welcome idea which falls within the focus of the Prince Dapo Abiodun led administration.


In his remarks, the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, who was represented by his Deputy; Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, said the state is in a vantage position for training Programmes like the T-Max project, saying the various policies introduced by the present administration had played critical role at making the state attractive to investors.


Abiodun, noted that Ogun, as the Industrial hub of the country, placed emphasis on technical education for specific training that would meet the needs of Industries operating in the State, as his  government had also been able to improve the ease of doing business, which he said has led to an increase in foreign investments.


        He lauded the intervention from the Federal Government which he acknowledged would further complement efforts by the present administration, assuring the  team of the State Government’s support.
