ABIODUN EMPHASISES SIGNIFICANCE OF YOUTH IN DEVELOPMENT

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has said the huge population of youths in  Nigeria, coupled with their knowledge, vibrancy and resolute spirit are capable of launching the nation into global reckoning.

Governor Abiodun made this assertion while delivering a lecture on the topic "The Youth as Catalyst in Building Nigeria's Future", at the Fourth Convocation of the Mountain Top University, Kilometre 12, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, stating that the country’s wealth resides with future leaders.

The Governor, who described youths as the "new oil of the nation", stated that they were the foundation layer for the development of any society with their driving force, noting that maximisation of their potential with abundant natural resources would bring wealth to the nation.

Abiodun charged them to channel their energies by exploring new frontiers in the different areas of human endeavors to bring the desired development to all facets of the economy, saying "be more than anything else, do not let someone else create your world for you. For when they do, they will always make it too small and it may not be the world you want for yourselves".

The Governor admonished the youth to rally round themselves, empower others to achieve their goals and avail the opportunity of their numerical strength to identify and promote better leadership in economy and politics, urging the government at all levels to provide the platform for the youth to contribute to the development of the society.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to youth empowerment and advancement of the education sector, calling on higher institutions to continue to ensure adequate relationship between 'town and gown' and produce qualified personnel for the development needs of the society.

Speaking, his counterpart in Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Office of the Special Adviser on Education, Mr. Adeniran Kasali said tremendous contributions of the government on manpower development had brought about academic excellence in the country, charging the graduands to be job creator and not job seekers.

In his remarks, the Chancellor, Mountain Top University and General Overseer of Mountain of Fire Ministry, Dr. Daniel Olukoya, while congratulating the graduands, noted that the school was set up to provide an all-round education that would make its products compete favourably with others in the world.
