ABIODUN PLEDGES TO PROVIDE SOLAR ENERGY FOR UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has pledged to provide solar energy for underserved communities in rural areas that are not connected to the national grid, just as he commissioned the 4.5-kilometer Molusi College road in Ijebu North Local Government Area of the State.

The Governor, who made this known during the commissioning in Ijebu-Igbo, said the provision of solar energy would be implemented under the electrification scheme of the government in partnership with the Rural Electrification Agency, adding that transformers would also be distributed to boost power supply at the grassroots, while grading of rural roads would commence soon.

"There are areas and communities across the State that we call the underserved communities where there is no provision of electricity through the grid. We will focus on these areas to extend our electrification scheme in partnership with the Rural Electrification Agency to provide electricity using solar", he said.

The Governor said the road was historic as its leads to the prestigious Molusi College that had produced prominent sons and daughters of the State, enumerating that the present government had constructed a good number of roads in the three Senatorial Districts including Ijebu-Ode-Epe, Ilisan-Ago-Iwoye, Oba Erinwole, Ejirin roads, among others.

He assured that affordable housing units would be constructed in the town, saying "on our affordable housing, we have so far built over 1300 houses in three and half years and we are still building. By the grace of God, between now and May, we will build probably another 700 houses, totaling over 2000 houses in three and half years’’.

Earlier in his address, Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, said the road which was a bye-pass to Atan- Eruwon, would complement the newly completed Ilishan-Ago-Iwoye road, adding that it would improve the economic well-being of the people as the government would not relent in the provision of road infrastructure across the State.

In his goodwill message, the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, represented by the Dagburewe of Idowa, Oba Yinusa Adekoya, stated that the construction of the Molusi College road was a plus to the administration of Governor Abiodun.

Also speaking, the Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, Lekan Mustapha, applauded the Governor for ensuring the even distribution of developmental projects across the State, describing the newly commissioned road as a worthwhile project.
