OGUN DISTRIBUTES EMPOWERMENT TOOLS TO PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES.



In it's resolve to help raise sustainable awareness in emphasizing the critical role that persons with disabilities plays in the day-to-day activities, development of the world, as well as the importance of giving adequate support and love to them, the Ogun State government through the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development has distributed several empowerment tools to the five clusters of people with disabilities across the state. 



The Commissioner in the Ministry, Mrs. Olufunmilayo Efuwape  spoke extensively on the theme of year 2022 International Day of Persons With Disabilities "Transformative solutions for inclusive development: role of innovation in fueling an accessible and equitable world" held at the Women Development Center, Oke Ilewo, Abeokuta.

Efuwape who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mrs Melutia Oginremi said that the main objective of the event was to collectively support and help persons with disabilities as well as informing the general public on the importance of giving support and love to persons with disabilities.


She emphasised on the importance of strengthening our collective efforts for universal acess to essential services, including immediate health and social protection, education, digital infrastructure, employment and many more for the persos with disabilities,  adding that this prompted the ministry to empower the five clusters which includes people living with leprosy, spinal cord injury, Physically challenged, Blinds and the Deaf. 


The Commissioner added that the effort of government at identifying and recognizing more clusters of disabilities with the view of providing them with appropriate assistance was another way to enhance the well being of these groups, saying that as a government it is resolute in it's commitment to recognize the potentials of all people, particularly people with disabilities. 


Responding, the chairman of Ogun State Disability community under the Joint National Association of Persons With Disabilities (JONAPWDS) Dr. Michael Ebohan appreciated the state government for it's efforts towards to provide for the persons with disabilities.


The Commissioner thereafter gave out the symbolic presentation of the empowerment tools to the five clusters which included Deep Freezers, Wheel chairs, Braided Machines, Standing Dryers, Hand Dryers, Generators, Sewing Machines, Whipping Machines, Arm Crushes, ICT Machines, and many more.
