SKILL ACQUISITION: OGUN ENGAGES 150 TRAINEES

Determined to grow the economy of Ogun State and by extension, the country, the State government through the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, has put together a skill acquisition programme that cuts across Hairdressing, Catering and Decoration and Makeup and Gele-Tying, and many more.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Melutia Ogunremi, while speaking at the matriculation of 150 men and women for the year 2023 Batch A  skill acquisition, held at Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta, said the programme would make individuals useful for themselves and society.

Mrs. Ogunremi said the essence of the training was to make both young and old self-reliant and be an employer of labour, adding that the means by which the economy of the country could flourish, depended on individual competence.

"Having acquired relevant skills, individuals will be useful for themselves and also be useful to their society, because it is the only thing we can use to grow the economy. This will prevent the challenge of unemployment, particularly in a situation where graduates are in search of jobs that are not in existence", Melutial said.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Director of Women Empowerment Services, Mrs. Wonuola Kassim, advised the trainees to be focused and courageous in order to face the challenges of vocational training.

According to her "You need the courage to face the challenges of vocational training, imbibe some certain qualities and character which include empathy, rigour, capacity to think independently in order to achieve success in life".

Appreciating the present administration for the opportunity to learn vocational training, the duo of  James ThankGod and Felicia Adewolu, promised to make judicious use of the training so as not to be a liability in society.

The Centre had so far trained over 2,000 students in different vocational skills including, Fashion Designing, Hairdressing, Catering and Decoration and Makeup and Gele-Tying.
