OGUN SENSITISES SERVICE PROVIDERS ON PROCUREMENT LAWS

Public Procurement Service providers have been advised to avoid bribery, corruption and unnecessary spending of Government funds during the procurement process.

Director, Digital Procurement, Research, Review and Strategic Planning of Ogun State Bureau of Public Procurement, Mr. Ayomikun Akinbode, stated this while delivering a lecture, during a sensitisation programme for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MsMEs) across the three Senatorial District of the State, at the Conference Halls of Ado-Odo/Ota, Abeokuta South and Ijebu- North Local Governments respectively, called on vendors and contractors to avoid any fraudulent practices that would jeopardise the smooth running of the procurement acts.

He further explained that all procurement contracts must contain warranties for durability of goods, exercise of requisite skills in service provision and use of genuine materials and inputs in contract execution, adding that contracts pertaining to goods, works and services would be awarded to the lowest evaluated responsive bidder.

"Some of the requirements a bidder must possess before being awarded  a contract from the Government is a professional and technical qualification, financial capability, obligation to pay tax among others" he said.

In her Address, the Bureau's Coordinator, Mrs. Feyisara Bolarinwa–Adebowale, said that Procurement was more than just choosing what to buy and method to adopt but rather involves series of activities that would guarantee positive outcome, add value for money as well as reduce cost of Governance.

She noted that everybody was a stakeholder in the procurement process as there were Administrative and Criminal Sanctions for Service Providers that violated the law and sabotaged the procurement process of the State.

In his remark, Director, Appeal Management Resolution and Quality Assurance, Mr. Olatunde Kazeem, said Procurement had changed how Government activities were being run since Procurement Reform came to existence in the State, while urging all participants to adhere strictly to the provision of the Procurement law, guidelines, regulations and bidding document of the State.

Responding on behalf of the participants, from Adex Nigeria Enterprises and Tobex Ventures respectively, Alhaji Sheriff Adejola and Tobiloba Aina, appreciated the bureau for the Sensitisation programme as it had enriched their knowledge on how best to bid for Government Contract in accordance with due process.
