On Saturday, the presidency reacted to reports claiming President Bola Tinubu had sacked the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume.

Bayo Onanuga, the special adviser to the president on information and strategy in a statement issued in the late hours of Saturday said the report that Akume has been sacked as SGF is fake news.

Recall that the media space had been filled with claims that President Tinubu sacked Akume, a former governor of Benue State from his position as SGF.

According to the report, Akume was replaced by Hadiza Bala-Usman, making her the first female SGF for the country

However, debunking the claims, Onanuga said, “There has been no change in the status of His Excellency, Senator George Akume, as Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, currently in Saint Lucia, has not made any new appointments. The information circulating about Akume’s replacement is untrue. Agents of mischief fabricated it.

“The Presidency advises Nigerians to disregard the fake news,” Onanuga stated.
