Reconciling aggrieved party members is my top priority, says Acting APC chairman

Acting National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ali Bukar Dalori, has declared that his priority is to unite party members and resolve internal grievances.

Dalori, who officially assumed office on Monday, said his leadership will be anchored on justice, fairness, and inclusion.

Speaking in an interview with BBC Hausa, Dalori said he is committed to mending divisions within the party across states, wards, and local government areas.

His words: “My top priority is to show APC members that I’ve done everything possible to reconcile those who have had issues among themselves.

“I will personally meet with them or appoint delegates who will go and speak with them to ensure this journey is better than before. Politics is about people, and it requires attention to people.”

He said that while the party’s national convention is expected to be held later in the year, a date has not been set because consultations are ongoing.

“There are senior stakeholders we need to consult. They are the ones who will give direction on whether or not the convention should take place,” he said.

Dalori admitted the APC is facing some challenges at the state level, especially in the north-east, where he hails from.

“Politics comes with such issues. We speak with one voice and remain united. We’re still working with everyone,” he said.

He also claimed that many opposition politicians who recently joined the APC did so out of fear that they could lose political relevance if they remained in their former parties.

“They were afraid. If they had stayed there, they wouldn’t have contested elections. They joined us so their interests could be protected,” he said.

Dalori, however, dismissed the ongoing merger talks among opposition parties, insisting the APC remains firmly intact.

“The collapse many expect won’t happen. We’ve stitched the party together with a strong thread that can’t break,” he said.
