Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has expressed strong confidence that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will keep control of the state after 2027 and also return to power at the federal level.
Makinde made this known on Monday at the PDP State Congress held at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan.
The governor said the peaceful conduct of the party’s congresses across wards, local governments, and the state had shown the strength of the PDP.
He urged newly elected state executives to work diligently and ensure the party’s success in all upcoming elections. According to him, their task goes beyond the state level and includes securing victory for the PDP from the presidential election down to councillorship contests.
Makinde said: “I want to congratulate all of us in advance because I believe, in this party, we won’t all labour in vain. We will all reap the fruits of our labour in this government. Let me assure you once again that those who are yet to get something from this government will be reached soon. This exercise is to ensure that the PDP continues to remain in power in Oyo State beyond 2027. So, the executives that will emerge from this exercise, your mandate is clear — deliver PDP from the Presidential to the Councillorship position in 2027.”
The governor praised the rancour-free congress and commended stakeholders for sustaining unity within the party.
Senator Austin Akobundu, Chairman of the PDP Congress Electoral Panel, also applauded the governor and party leaders for their commitment.
However, Governor Makinde had earlier maintained that PDP remains the only party capable of unseating the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the national level, stressing that Nigerians are looking for genuine leadership ahead of 2027.
