The Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), has warned Motor Dealers Association of Nigeria, Ogun State Chapter (MODAN), to desist from displaying cars on the roads describing such acts as barbaric and obstruction to free flow of traffic across Ogun State.
Most Senior Officer of the Agency, Elias Omonayajo gave the warning during an interactive section with MODAN at the Agency's Headquarters, Ajebo Road Abeokuta, saying that enforcement of traffic rules on wrong parking would take immediate effect.
Omonayajo noted the Agency had observed that some motor dealers in areas like Isabo, Isale-Igbein, Olorunsogo, Abiola Way, Moore Junction and other places in Abeokuta were in the habit of displaying their cars haphazardly on the roads and this obstruct free flow of traffic. He thereby enjoined the Chairman of MODAN to warn members to desist from such acts.
He expressed the State Government's displeasure over indiscriminate parking of vehicles that contravened traffic rules and orderliness on the road, urging them to support TRACE in its efforts to maintain free flow of traffic and avoid accident that could be caused by illegal parking.
According to him "as Agency of government saddled with the responsibility of saving lives and property, we will not condone any insanity on the roads as all our Divisional Commanders in the Agency have been directed to clamp down all vehicles obstructing free flow of traffic and parked illegally off the roads".
Responding, Chairman MODAN, Ogun State Chapter. Alhaji Sanmi Akanbi appreciated TRACE management and its operatives for the commitments to road safety and restoration of sanity on the roads, promising to cascade the directive to all members.
