Authorities of Ijebu East Local Government, led by Executive Chairman, Hon. Dr. Oluwadare Kehinde, has launched a comprehensive solar streetlight project across the council area.
The initiative aimed to light up major roads, marketplaces, and the Local Government Secretariat with a view to enhance public safety and boost socio-economic activities during evening hours.
Speaking on the development, Hon. Dr. Oluwadare Kehinde stated that the vision was to build a well-lit, secured and vibrant Ijebu East where residents could thrive economically, even during the odd hours, revealing that the Local Council took advantage of the vegetation by harnessing solar energy which was described as a cost-effective and environmentally friendly solution to the challenge of public lighting.
"This solar project is a cornerstone of that lighting vision, that is, bringing sustainable light to our communities and paving the way for further progress. We are committed to ensuring that this initiative benefits every corner of our Local Government," the Chairman said.
He revealed that installation of the solar streetlights is scheduled to begin in the coming weeks, with a phased rollout plan designed to cover the entire Local Government area.
