Determined to improve public health and reduce Industrial pollution in the state to the barest minimum,the Ogun State Ministry of Environment is collaborating with the Remo Medical Outreach to organise a colloquium tagged "1st Remo Public Health and Industrial Accountability Colloquium"with the theme "Safeguarding Community Health, Strengthening Corporate and Government Accountability on Industrial Effluent Discharge"on Wednesday 19th of this month in Sagamu, Ogun State.
The objectives of the colloquium according from a statement jointly signed by the organisers are to advocate for stronger corporate accountability and enforcement mechanisms for effluent discharge, highlight the public health risks such as cholera, typhoid, dysentery,long-term chronic conditions associated with Industrial pollution, showcase best practices and policy models from countries with effective environmental regulations and launch the " Clean Communities Initiatives (CCI),a global campaign to strengthen environmental compliance and protect community health.
The colloquium which will hold at the Innova Place, along Oba Erinwole Road, Sagamu starting from noon will be attended by top government officials from the State Ministries of Environment and Health, Corporate Sector Actors, International Non-Governmental Organizations NGOs, Donor Agencies, United Nations Agencies,the Academia and the Media.
