As the contest for the next Awujale of Ijebuland gathers momentum, a real estate expert and accomplished engineer, Otunba Babatunde Babatunde Alatise has formally declared his intention to join the race for the revered stool.
Alatise made the declaration on Tuesday while addressing members of the press at his residence, Alagbada Villa, located at 102B Luba Eruwon Road, GRA, Ijebu-Ode, opposite Endurance Garden. He noted that the gathering was convened to publicly express his readiness to serve the people of Ijebuland as the next Awujale and Paramount Ruler.
According to him, his aspiration is driven not merely by personal ambition but by a deep sense of duty to Ijebu heritage, traditional institutions, and the legacy of the Awujale lineage.
“Today marks a defining moment in the continuous history of our great Ijebu nation. We are gathered for one purpose; to formally announce my declaration, vision, and commitment as a frontline contender for the vacant stool of the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland.
“I, Otunba Babatunde Alatise, a proud descendant of the Bubiade Royal Family of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, Agunsebi, Ijebu-Ode, make this declaration in accordance with tradition, royal lineage, and the historical succession order.”
Alatise described the Awujale stool as one of honour, unity, stability, and the preservation of the cultural identity of Ijebuland, emphasizing that it represents a sacred trust.
“I offer myself with humility, clarity of purpose, and complete dedication to uphold and elevate that trust. My vision for Ijebuland is bold, inclusive, and modern, yet deeply rooted in our ancient values. It is a roadmap that honours our past, addresses present realities, and prepares us for a prosperous future.”
Outlining his plans if entrusted with the responsibility, Prince Alatise affirmed that he would work to uphold the sanctity of the throne, strengthen traditional institutions, and promote economic development through new drivers of prosperity.
“Ijebuland must embrace new pathways to growth. I will champion mining and tourism as strategic pillars of long-term economic transformation. I will preserve our festivals, customs, and royal lineage, ensuring that our cultural identity remains strong for generations to come.
“I envision an Ijebuland that is united, peaceful, and progressive; a land where every community feels valued and every family benefits from development.”
