REMO DAY A RE-AFFIRMATION OF OUR SHARED PROSPERITY – AKARIGBO




The annual Remo Day celebration has been described as a ceremony that is beyond an ordinary festival, but a reaffirmation of the shared prosperity, collective strength and the aspirations of a brighter and prosperous future for all Remo indigenes across the world.


The Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, made this known at the 2025 Remo Day celebration themed “One People, Diverse Cultures, One Identity”, a festival that also featured the ceremonial cutting of the tape to officially open the Akarigbo Palace Pavilion in Sagamu.


Speaking further, Oba Ajayi said the vision behind instituting Remo Day was to celebrate, preserve and project Remo culture to the global stage, noting that Remo sons and daughters have distinguished themselves in all spheres of human endeavours, stressing that the Remo identity remained resilient and enduring.


While reaffirming Remo’s commitment to preserving its cultural heritage, the monarch said the people of his kingdom would continue to work with other stakeholders towards the actualisation of the proposed Ijebu-Remo State. Oba Ajayi, expressed appreciation to Governor Abiodun for partnering with Remo indigenes to construct the palace pavilion, which would serve as a venue for major cultural and civic events.


Earlier in his welcome address, Chairman, Governing Council, Remo Growth and Development Foundation, Otunba Seni Adetu, appreciated the Executive Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun for his unwavering support throughout the planning process.


Adetu added that Remo day celebration was an occasion “where we not only honour our heritage, but celebrate our unity in diversity as one Remo and our share our commitment to the process," he said.


The Radanuwa of Idado, Oba Musiliu Soile, said the event was a huge success and an opportunity for the Remo communities to come together and reflect on their shared identity and collective strength. He congratulated the Akarigbo and various committees that organised the celebration saying, "we look forward to more uniting ceremonies for Remo sons and daughters".


Speaking, the Onipara of Ipara, Oba Taiwo Taiwo, said Remo day 2025 was a wonderful event urging indigenes in the diaspora to take Remo Day as a priority and make time out to come home for the celebration to preserve the heritage, traditions and achievements of their land.


The 2025 Remo Day which was the second edition of the event attracted dignitaries from across the country and featured colourful masquerade displays from different parts of Remoland and homage march to salute the Akarigbo by age grades, clubs and associations, among others.
