GNI Throws Weight Behind Measles Rubella Vaccination

The Federal lawmaker  representing Yewa North/Imeko-Afon Federal Constituency, Hon. Gboyega Nasir Isiaka (GNI), has thrown his weight behind the ongoing nationwide Measles-Rubella vaccination campaign, describing it as a critical step towards safeguarding the health of Nigerian children and building a healthier society.

Isiaka said the initiative was in alignment with the health and environmental sustainability agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, whose administration has prioritised disease prevention, improved healthcare delivery and the protection of vulnerable populations, particularly children, from vaccine-preventable illnesses.

He noted that measles and rubella remain major public health concerns, capable of causing severe complications such as blindness, deafness, brain damage and death, stressing that vaccination remains the safest, most effective and affordable means of preventing outbreaks and reducing childhood mortality.

The lawmaker also commended the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, for keying into the President’s health agenda and for his sustained commitment to improving healthcare access across the state, especially at the grassroots level where preventive healthcare is most needed.

Isiaka, who has consistently advocated increased funding, awareness and community engagement to eliminate measles and rubella in Nigeria, said Ogun State’s participation reflects a shared resolve between the federal and state governments to protect the future of Nigerian children.

He urged local government chairmen, traditional rulers, market men and women associations, youths, artisans and religious leaders to intensify mobilisation efforts and ensure massive participation in the free, safe and effective vaccination exercise.

The campaign targets children aged 9 months to 14 years, with the lawmaker calling on parents and guardians to take advantage of the exercise to protect their children from preventable diseases, long-term disabilities and avoidable deaths.
