A former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) House Of Representative candidate in Lagos state, Hon. Naheem Balogun, popularly known as “Imòlę Dee,” has announced his intention to contest the 2027 Lagos governorship election on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Balogun, who defected back to the ADC last year after contesting for House of Representatives under the PDP, has formally declared his intention to wrestle power from All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State.

Balogun made this declaration at a well-attended ceremony held at the De-Echo Event Centre, Egbeda, Lagos State, which attracted party faithful and supporters from Alimosho Local Government Area.

Addressing members of the party, the governorship aspirant said Nigerians and Lagos state had endured years of hardship and economic challenges, stressing that there is urgent need for a change in leadership.

He urged citizens to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), describing it as a powerful instrument for democratic participation and national renewal.

“The 2023 election sent a clear message. We can not continue like this. As we approach 2027, Nigerians must get their PVCs and use them to change the fortunes of our dear country,” Balogun said.

He added that the ADC, as a party that remained open to strategic collaborations, noting that the party was willing to welcome members of other political parties and like-minded individuals who share its vision for good governance and national development.

Also speaking at the event, the ADC Chairman in Alimosho Local Government Area, Hon. Wesley Odeyemi expressed confidence in the party’s prospects in the 2027 elections.

He assured Balogun of the party’s full support and pledged to mobilise voters to ensure victory for the ADC, urging members to work tirelessly ahead of the polls, so as to ensure victory throughout the Lagos state and beyond.

In his remarks, the House of Representatives aspirant for Alimosho Federal Constituency, Hon. Dapo Igbasan expressed optimism that the ADC would emerge victoriously, irrespective of any forms of political intimidation, and harassment.

Similarly, the Lagos State House of Assembly aspirant, Hon. Gideon Adeniran, urged the party members to remain, focused, steadfast and committed to fostering unity within the party, describing unity as key to electoral success.

It should be recalled that Hon. Balogun had already declared his intention to contest the Lagos State governorship election under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), at Epe local government, his hometown, pledged to redefine the political landscape of the state with experience, integrity, and people-centered leadership.

Though, during that declaration, Hon. Balogun emphasised that his exposure to governance, leadership, and global best practices abroad had further strengthened his understanding of Lagos politics and governance, positioned him to offer practical solutions to the state’s challenges.
