Ogun at 50: Ijebu-Ode LG Applauds Gov. Abiodun’s Development Record



Residents of Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area on Friday, February 6, 2026, turned out in large numbers to celebrate the developmental strides recorded under the administration of Prince Dapo Abiodun, Executive Governor of Ogun State, as part of activities marking the state’s 50th anniversary.


The well-attended event, described by observers as the Ijebu-Ode Scorecard, reflected the strong communal spirit, unity, and civic pride of the ancient town.


Dignitaries at the event included leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), members of the League of Imams, Community Development Associations, youth and women groups, party faithful from Wards One to Eleven, traditional rulers, market leaders, artisans, and other stakeholders from across the state.


The gathering provided an opportunity for residents to reflect on the developmental journey of Ijebu-Ode and acknowledge the progress recorded under Governor Abiodun’s leadership.


Speaking on behalf of the state government, the Commissioner for Finance, Hon. Rahman Okubadejo Oladipo, described the transformation witnessed across Ogun State as remarkable and impactful. He noted that the administration’s focus on infrastructure development, youth empowerment, economic growth, and social advancement has continued to improve the quality of life of residents.


According to him, projects such as road construction in strategic parts of Ijebu-Ode, empowerment programmes for youths and small business owners, and other infrastructural improvements underscore the government’s commitment to purposeful, people-centred governance. He explained that these initiatives are aimed at enhancing mobility, stimulating economic activities, creating opportunities for local entrepreneurs, and strengthening community welfare.


Hon. Oladipo added that the progress recorded across various sectors reflects a clear and consistent vision for sustainable development, assuring residents that the state government remains committed to ensuring that no community is left behind as development spreads across both urban and rural areas.


In his welcome address, the Chairman of Ijebu-Ode Local Government and chief host of the event, Hon. Dare Alebio, commended residents for their enthusiastic participation and unwavering support for government programmes. He described the massive turnout as a demonstration of unity, confidence in leadership, and belief in the direction of the state.


Hon. Alebiosu reaffirmed the local government’s alignment with the developmental agenda of the state administration, stressing that effective collaboration between state and grassroots leadership has been instrumental in delivering impactful projects within Ijebu-Ode.


Traditional rulers and community leaders, who delivered goodwill messages, praised the resilience and unity of the Ijebu-Ode people and urged residents to continue supporting initiatives that promote peace, development, and social cohesion. They described the golden jubilee as both a moment of reflection and an opportunity to reaffirm shared aspirations for growth and prosperity.


The celebration featured cultural displays highlighting the rich heritage and traditions of the Ijebu people. Dance performances, music presentations, and symbolic processions reinforced the community’s history and sense of collective identity.


A raffle draw was also held, during which gifts were distributed to participants, adding colour and festivity to the occasion.


Many residents expressed optimism about the future of Ijebu-Ode and Ogun State, noting that sustained investment in infrastructure, education, and economic empowerment would further accelerate development and improve living standards.


Overall, the Ijebu-Ode celebration underscored the state’s progress over the past five decades while highlighting the importance of community participation, unity, and effective leadership in building a more prosperous Ogun State for future generations.
