As the 2027 general elections draws nearer, the race for various political positions in the country has intensified following the announcement of the Presidential and National Assembly Elections which will hold on Saturday, 16th January 2027 and the State Houses of Assembly Elections which will hold on Saturday, 6th February 2027.

Many politicians have been busy running around to seek political offices or retain their current positions. 

In Abeokuta South Local Government, there are constituency I and II.

In constituency ll, there is one name that continues to resonate strongly across the Clconstituency is Hon. Joshua Oluwaseun Showunmi (JSHOW). Hon. Joshua Oluwaseun Showunmi is a proud indigene of Abeokuta, Ogun State, with deep ancestral and social ties to the political and cultural landscape of Abeokuta South. Raised within a family well known in grassroots political circles, he grew up witnessing firsthand the value of community service, leadership responsibility, and political participation.

His upbringing within this politically conscious environment helped shape his commitment to public service and laid the foundation for his interest in governance and grassroots development.

 BUSINESS JOURNEY

Beyond politics, Joshua Showunmi has established himself as a successful entrepreneur with business interests both within Nigeria and abroad. His business career reflects discipline, innovation, and a strong sense of social responsibility.

Driven by his passion for humanitarian service, he founded Josarah Cornerstones Childminder , a care initiative dedicated to supporting both children with special needs and able-bodied children. The initiative reflects his deep commitment to inclusive care and child development.

Hon. Joshua Showunmi is a longstanding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) , with political roots dating back to the administration of Baba Aremo Olusegun Osoba, former Governor of Ogun State. Coming from a politically active family with respected figures deeply involved in grassroots politics across Abeokuta South, Showunmi’s political consciousness developed early. 

His philanthropic engagements gradually exposed him to governance structures and strengthened his resolve to serve more directly through public office.

In 2023, he made a notable attempt to contest for the Ogun State House of Assembly, representing Abeokuta South State Constituency II. Though the opportunity did not materialize at the time, the experience further strengthened his grassroots engagement and expanded his support base.
