The first batch of 345 pilgrims from the Ogun State contingent to the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage arrived at the Gateway International Airport, Iperu, on Thursday at exactly 8:54 p.m. Nigerian time.

The pilgrims comprised of 151 male and 194 female arrived directly from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and were conveyed aboard on an Airbus A330, operated by Flynas, a Saudi Arabian airline.

Their arrival marked a significant milestone for the Gateway International Airport and the successful completion of this year’s Hajj pilgrimage by the Ogun State contingent.

The pilgrims were received by officials of the Ogun State Government, led by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Tokunbo Talabi; the Head of Service, Mr. Olanrewaju Saka and several local government chairmen from Ogun East Senatorial District.

Speaking during the reception, Governor Dapo Abiodun, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, described the 2026 Hajj operation as a remarkable achievement for the State.

“I feel very happy because many people thought this day would not be possible, but we thank Almighty Allah for making it a reality,” he said.

Also speaking with journalists, the Consultant to the Governor on Islamic Affairs and leader of the first batch of pilgrims, Sheikh Lawal Sugar, commended Governor Abiodun for his unwavering commitment to the welfare and well-being of the pilgrims throughout the pilgrimage.

One of the returning pilgrims and a Special Assistant to the Governor, office of the SSG, Dr. Murtala Ejalonibu, thanked Almighty Allah for a safe return to Nigeria and expressed delight that the pilgrims were able to land at the Gateway International Airport.

He also appreciated Governor Abiodun for providing adequate welfare and support to the pilgrims, describing the 2026 Hajj exercise as successful and memorable.
