ABEOKUTA — The Articulate Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (AMORAN) on Saturday inaugurated its newly elected state executives, with stakeholders praising the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun and expressing confidence in the union's leadership under the re-elected State Chairman, Otunba Taofeek Sokoya.
The inauguration ceremony, held at the union's state secretariat in Car Wash, Adatan, Abeokuta, marked the beginning of a new administration expected to consolidate AMORAN's achievements and further strengthen its role in Ogun State's transportation sector.
Speaking after taking the oath of office, Sokoya expressed appreciation to Governor Dapo Abiodun, CON, describing him as a father figure and a strong supporter of AMORAN and the transport sector in Ogun State.
According to him, the governor's leadership has significantly transformed transport union activities in the state, helping to reposition the sector from an era often associated with hooliganism to one characterized by orderliness, discipline, and responsible unionism.
The AMORAN chairman also thanked members of the executive council and the entire union for their support and cooperation, noting that the successes recorded by the association were achieved through collective effort and commitment.
He pledged not to betray the confidence reposed in him and assured members of his commitment to sustaining AMORAN's position as a leading transport union in the state.
Representing the Ogun State Commissioner for Transportation, Engr. Gbenga Dario, at the event, Engr. Babatunde Omisakin commended the union for its operational efficiency and support for government transportation policies.
Omisakin attributed AMORAN's stability and achievements to the leadership of Sokoya, describing the association as a dependable partner in advancing the state's transportation agenda.
He urged the newly inaugurated executives to build on existing successes and remain dedicated to service and excellence.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Parks and Garages Development Agency (PAGADA), Alhaji Lukman Adunmo, praised Sokoya's leadership qualities and contributions to the development of the union.
Adunmo encouraged the chairman to sustain the progress recorded during his previous tenure and wished him success in his new term of office.
The Ogun State Chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Akeem Abiodun Lasisi, also commended AMORAN for maintaining peace and unity in the conduct of its affairs.
He described the union as a model of stability and urged members to continue supporting the leadership, emphasizing that lasting progress can only be achieved through unity and cooperation.
The event attracted prominent figures from the transportation and labour sectors, including the Chairman of the Riders and Owners of Motorcycle Organisation (ROMO), Alhaji (Dr.) Rasak Olusola Sotayo (Sholebo); member of the Ogun State House of Assembly representing Abeokuta South State Constituency II, Hon. Igbalaye Wasiu Ayodele; and former AMORAN Chairman, Otunba Nurudeen Aina Alowonle, among others.
The inauguration formally ushered in a new phase of leadership for the association, with expectations high for continued growth, stability, and partnership with the Ogun State Government.
