HOS GIVES COMMENDATION TO OFFICERS FOR GOOD ENVIRONMENTAL CONDUCT

The Ogun State Head of Service, Mr Olanrewaju Saka has directed that commendation letters be issued to three workers in the Ogun State Civil/Public Service for being good ambassadors at the bi-monthly environmental sanitation exercise.

The Head of Service gave the directive when he monitored the 2nd in the series of the bi-monthly environmental sanitation exercise that was resuscitated in recent past.

At the Bureau of Lands and Survey, Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta, Olasunbo Ayorinde, Olubukola Ayinde and Toyin Olowu were tagged "Sanitation Ambassadors" for showing commitment and hard work during the exercise.

The HoS said the gesture was to serve as encouragement to all the workers to brace up whenever any task is assigned to them and charged the recipients to show more compliance and serve as monitors at subsequent editions of the sanitation exercise.

Also, at the Bureau of Lands and Survey, where traders were directed to evacuate their sheds to give room for cutting of trees and aesthetic wellness of the environment that have posed threats to the lives of the people, the Head of Service assured that they will be back to their stalls as government does not have the intention of taking their economic power from them as earlier speculated in some quarters, but advised that the place be maintained and kept clean always.

On the general assessment of the exercise, the Head of Service said the second edition was an improvement on the maiden one in terms of promptness and attendance as the workers turned out massively to participate in the exercise.

Mr. Saka urged the Heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies of Government (MDAs) to provide necessary clearing tools and monitor the exercise as well as the environment from time to time, as any good initiative or policy not monitored would soon go into extinction, hence, monitoring and evaluation are very critical.

On her part, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Dr. Kafayat Lawal appreciated the Head of Service for the implementation of the initiative which she said had impacted positively on the sustainable environment being championed by her Ministry, and added that there was a great improvement on the level of compliance compared to the previous one in terms of clean environment and punctuality.

Dr. Lawal said her Ministry is ready to partner with any MDA  that is willing to work with it in the area of having a sustainable, clean and serene environment.

Responding on behalf of the recipients, Surveyor Olubukola Ayinde appreciated the Head of Service for the kind gesture and said the need for a clean and safe environment prompted her to fully participate in the exercise and pledged to be good ambassadors of the State Government anytime, anywhere.

Agencies monitored included the Ogun State Agro Services Corporation, Agric Services and Food Security, Office of the Statistician-General, the Bureau of Public Procurement, the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC), the Ogun State Building Production Management Authority, Ogun State Waste Management Agency, Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority, amongst others.
