DR. OLUWATOYIN SAKIRAT MADEIN TO RECEIVE CITY PEOPLE MAGAZINE'S 2026 WOMAN OF THE YEAR AWARD




Dr. (Mrs.) Oluwatoyin Sakirat MADEIN, Nigeria's first female Accountant-General of the Federation, will on Sunday, 5th July, 2026, receive the prestigious City People Magazine Woman of the Year Award 2026 at the City People Awards for Excellence scheduled to hold in Lagos.


According to the letter of conferment signed by the Publisher of City People Magazine, Dr. Seye KEHINDE, OON, the award is designed to recognise, reward and celebrate outstanding personalities, public office holders, politicians and organisations whose achievements, leadership and contributions have made significant impacts on society and national development.


Founded in November 1996 by renowned journalist and media entrepreneur Dr. Seye KEHINDE, City People Magazine is the Nigeria's foremost celebrity, entertainment and society publication. Headquartered in Lagos, the magazine has built an enduring reputation for chronicling fashion, lifestyle, corporate achievements, high-profile personalities and major social events across Nigeria and West Africa. It is widely respected for its exclusive celebrity interviews, high-society profiles, lifestyle features, entertainment news and its flagship annual City People Awards, which honour excellence and outstanding accomplishments across various sectors.


Dr. MADEIN is being honoured in recognition of her exceptional contributions to public service, financial management, community development and humanitarian service, particularly her historic achievement as the first female Accountant-General of the Federation of Nigeria.


Born on March 7, 1965, in Iperu-Remo, Ogun State, Dr. MADEIN's life has been defined by discipline, integrity, excellence and selfless service. She built an impressive academic and professional profile, earning degrees in Accountancy and Business Administration before obtaining a Doctorate in Management Finance. She is also a Fellow of several prestigious professional bodies, including ACCA (UK), ICAN, ANAN, the International Association for Strategy Professionals (IASP), and the Society for West Africa Internal Audit Practitioners.


With a distinguished career spanning more than three decades, Dr. MADEIN served in several strategic Ministries, Departments and Agencies before making history as Nigeria's first female Accountant-General of the Federation. During her tenure, she strengthened key public financial management reforms, including the Treasury Single Account (TSA), the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS), and initiatives that enhanced transparency, accountability and fiscal discipline in the management of public resources.


Beyond her outstanding public service, Dr. MADEIN has remained deeply committed to the development of her ancestral home, Iperu-Remo, and the wider Remoland. Through her leadership and interventions, numerous community development projects have been facilitated, including road infrastructure, solar street lighting, water projects, youth and women empowerment programmes, employment opportunities and sports development initiatives.

Her passion for humanitarian service is further demonstrated through the Olowo Oloye Foundation, which has become a platform for transforming lives through scholarships for indigent students, girl-child education, women and youth empowerment, free ICT training, support for widows and vulnerable persons, as well as free healthcare outreach programmes.


A devoted wife and caring mother, she is happily maried to Engr. Sir Adeleke MADEIN, and has successfully combined an exemplary public service career with a stable and admirable family life, making her a role model for women and future generations of leaders.

Following her retirement from the Federal Civil Service in March 2025 after over thirty years of meritorious service, Dr. MADEIN continues to inspire through mentorship, philanthropy and thought leadership. Her book, "Beyond the Ledger: A Journey in Public Finance and Governance – Musings of the First Female Accountant-General of the Federation", stands as a valuable resource for serving and aspiring public servants.


The conferment of the City People Magazine Woman of the Year Award 2026 is a fitting recognition of a life dedicated to excellence, integrity, nation-building and service to humanity.
