The Federal Government has provided support to cocoa farmers in Ijebu North-East Local Government Area through the distribution of cocoa seedlings, in a move aimed at strengthening agricultural development and promoting grassroots economic empowerment.

The intervention, implemented under the administration of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Foluso Badejo, is expected to provide farmers with quality planting materials capable of supporting sustainable cocoa production, improving household livelihoods and creating a dependable source of income for beneficiaries.

The distribution underscores the commitment of the Badejo-led administration to promoting agriculture as a viable pathway to economic empowerment and grassroots development. By supporting farmers with inputs for long-term crop production, the initiative seeks to encourage greater engagement in agriculture while strengthening the local agricultural value chain.

Cocoa, being a long-term cash crop, requires patience and sustained cultivation before farmers begin to enjoy significant returns. Under favourable growing conditions, the newly distributed seedlings are expected to start yielding in approximately four years.
