The immediate past Chief of Staff to the Governor of Ogun State and candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the Ipokia/Yewa South Federal Constituency, Dr. Emmanuel Oluwatoyin Taiwo, has unveiled a comprehensive vision to transform the constituency into an economically viable, inclusive and prosperous community through quality legislation, effective representation and the strategic facilitation of Federal Government projects and interventions.
Dr. Taiwo made this known during an appearance on Oju Abe, a flagship current affairs programme on Splash FM, Abeokuta, where he outlined his development agenda and priorities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The APC candidate stated that his aspiration to represent the people of Ipokia/Yewa South in the House of Representatives was inspired by a genuine desire to create sustainable economic opportunities, address critical developmental challenges and improve the overall quality of life of the people.
According to him, he intends to leverage his extensive experience in public administration, established networks and deep understanding of government processes to attract meaningful federal interventions, infrastructure and development programmes to the constituency.
“My mission is to build an economically viable and prosperous Ipokia/Yewa South Federal Constituency through quality legislation, effective representation and the facilitation of Federal Government projects that will have a direct and lasting impact on the lives of our people,” he said.
Dr. Taiwo identified agriculture, education, human capital development, youth empowerment, support for women and widows, and social welfare programmes for senior citizens as central pillars of his development agenda.
On agriculture, he pledged to promote farmers’ access to improved and high yielding seedlings, fertilisers, extension services, affordable financing and modern agricultural machinery. He explained that greater attention would also be given to mechanisation, value addition, storage and improved market access to increase productivity, reduce post harvest losses and enhance farmers’ incomes.
He described agriculture as one of the most important economic pillars of the constituency, noting that the sector must be repositioned through deliberate government intervention, modern technology and access to the essential inputs required for commercial production.
“Our farmers must be supported to move beyond subsistence agriculture. We must create an agricultural economy that generates employment, supports local industries, improves household incomes and contributes meaningfully to food security,” he stated.
On education, Dr. Taiwo pledged to make the sector a major priority. He promised to collaborate with the Federal and Ogun State Governments, relevant agencies and development partners to support policies and initiatives that would expand access to quality education, improve learning conditions and provide greater opportunities for students across the constituency.
He also promised to give deliberate attention to young people through human capital development programmes, vocational and entrepreneurial training, digital skills acquisition, mentorship and improved access to federal employment and empowerment opportunities.
According to him, investing in young people is essential to securing the constituency’s economic future, as no society can achieve sustainable development without equipping its youth with the knowledge, skills and opportunities required to succeed in an increasingly competitive world.
Speaking on the long standing issue of the proposed relocation of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic to Ipokia, Dr. Taiwo assured constituents that he would pursue the matter with the seriousness, diligence and sustained engagement it deserves if elected. He pledged to work with the relevant authorities and stakeholders to ensure that the interests and aspirations of the people are effectively represented.
He also addressed reports concerning the discovery of oil around Tongeji Island, assuring the people that the area’s economic potential would receive the necessary attention. He observed that the ongoing processes relating to oil exploration in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area had further demonstrated the growing strategic importance of Ogun State’s emerging oil and gas sector.
Dr. Taiwo maintained that the reported oil deposits around Tongeji Island must not be overlooked. He promised to use his position in the National Assembly to advocate for thorough exploration, appropriate Federal Government intervention, environmental protection and the meaningful participation of host communities in any resulting economic opportunities.
On his prospects in the 2027 general elections, the APC candidate expressed confidence in victory, describing the party as the leading political platform at both the federal and state levels.
He attributed his optimism to the achievements of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the developmental strides of the Ogun State Government under the leadership of Governor Dapo Abiodun.
Dr. Taiwo also cited his longstanding relationship with the people of Ipokia/Yewa South, his familiarity with the communities and his understanding of their peculiar needs and challenges as important strengths in his bid for election.
He expressed confidence that the electorate would support his aspiration and entrust him with the responsibility of providing effective, accessible and accountable representation in the National Assembly.
Dr. Taiwo assured the people that his aspiration was not motivated by the desire merely to occupy political office. Rather, it was founded on a firm commitment to use the platform of public service to attract development, create economic opportunities, protect the interests of the constituency and ensure that its communities benefit equitably from government policies, programmes and projects.
“My aspiration is about service, development and the future of our people. I am prepared to provide representation that listens, engages and delivers tangible results. Together, we can build an Ipokia/Yewa South Federal Constituency that is economically vibrant, socially inclusive and capable of providing a better future for present and succeeding generations,” he concluded.
