Hon. Barr. Olufemi Adeleke Ogunbanwo(Omo-Iwa), member of the House of Representatives representing the Ijebu-Ode/Odogbolu/Ijebu North East Federal Constituency, has urged members of Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) to uphold professional integrity while discharging their duties.

Speaking at the Investiture of the Pioneer Chairman of the Association of ANAN and Fund Raising for the Procurement Land for Secretariat, the lawmaker represented by Otunba Labi Okusanya congratulated members of the association on what he described as a significant milestone in the history of the branch.

He said the twin event demonstrated the foresight and commitment of members to laying a strong foundation for the growth and development of the association.

According to him, the establishment of a permanent secretariat would provide the Branch with a sense of identity and create a lasting institutional structure for present and future generations of Accountants.

Hon. Ogunbanwo also emphasised the critical role of Accountants in the development of society, stressing the importance of Accountability and prudent management of resources in both the public and private sectors.

“The Accounting profession and professionals will continue to be critical in the development journey of any society,” he said, noting that efficient and effective utilisation of financial and material resources remained essential to sustainable development.

He urged Accountants to uphold professionalism, integrity and competence in all their professional dealings, describing these values as essential to maintaining public confidence in the profession.

The lawmaker further highlighted the historical contributions of Ijebuland to the Accounting profession and other fields of endeavour, saying the present generation of professionals had inherited a rich legacy from pioneers who distinguished themselves through integrity, competence and service.

Addressing the pioneer chairman, Hon. Ogunbanwo charged Mrs. Oluwatoke Caroline to lead with selflessness and strength of character, stressing that her position came with the responsibility of nurturing the young Branch through its formative years.

“You are leading an association at birth; it is therefore your responsibility to nurture the Association to survive the teething challenges to ensure its growth and development,” he said.

He also called on members of ANAN Ogun 2 Branch to see the investiture and fundraising as the planting of a seed that must be collectively nurtured.

He urged members, elders and friends of the Accounting profession to support the secretariat project generously, saying the proposed facility should become a lasting legacy for future generations of Accountants in Ijebuland.

Reaffirming his commitment to the development of Ijebuland, Ogun State and Nigeria, Ogunbanwo pledged continued support for initiatives aimed at advancing the welfare and development of the people.

He subsequently announced his personal donation of N1 million towards the procurement of land for the Association’s secretariat.

The event brought together members of ANAN, professionals, community leaders and other stakeholders to celebrate the inauguration of the branch’s pioneer leadership and support the development of its permanent institutional home.
