Mr. Raji Yahaya is a diligent and committed MARSHALLER Officer whose dedication to duty, professionalism, and service to humanity deserve recognition and commendation.
Mr. Raji Yahaya was absorbed into the Public Service in 1993 as a Principal Marshaller Officer and rose through the ranks to the position of Principal Operations Superintendent Officer before his retirement on 17th September 2026, after an impressive 35 years of dedicated service.
He began his career at Murtala Mohammed Airport, Lagos, where he laid the foundation for a remarkable career in aircraft marshalling and airport operations. He concluded his service at Gateway International Airport, Iperu, Ogun State.
During his time at Gateway International Airport, Iperu, Mr. Yahaya’s wealth of experience became a valuable asset to the airport, particularly in the parking and proper positioning of aircraft. His expertise, professionalism, and attention to detail contributed immensely to the smooth and orderly handling of aircraft operations at the airport.
Throughout his years of service, Mr. Yahaya demonstrated discipline, punctuality, professionalism, and a strong sense of responsibility. He approached his duties with dedication and viewed his responsibilities not merely as a job, but as an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the development of the aviation sector and society at large.
A good officer is measured not only by the uniform he wears, but also by his attitude, conduct, competence, and commitment to duty. In all these respects, Mr. Raji Yahaya distinguished himself through his willingness to serve, maintain order, assist others, and uphold the standards expected of a responsible MARSHALLER Officer.
A Teacher and Mentor to Many
Beyond his official responsibilities, Mr. Yahaya also distinguished himself as a teacher and mentor. Under his tutelage, he successfully trained and mentored more than 42 officers, passing on his wealth of knowledge, experience, and the rudiments of aircraft marshalling.
Among his beneficiaries are Mr. Onifade Adebayo, Mr. Gbenga Adegbola, Mr. Okiki Ademola, Mr. Enilorunda Ayomide, and Mr. Teslim Olatoki, all of whom are MARSHALLER Officers at Gateway International Airport, Iperu.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Gbenga Adegbola described Mr. Raji Yahaya as a fatherly figure who treated his trainees like his own children. According to him, Mr. Yahaya taught them the necessary skills and principles required to become competent and responsible MARSHALLER Officers.
He further described him as an intelligent, easy-going, approachable, and knowledgeable person whose guidance and mentorship had a positive impact on the professional development of those who worked under him.
A Legacy of Dedication and Service
Mr. Yahaya’s diligence is particularly reflected in his consistency. Whether faced with a demanding task or a routine responsibility, he approached it with seriousness, determination, and professionalism. His respectful interaction with colleagues further demonstrated his understanding that effective service requires not only firmness and discipline, but also courtesy, patience, and mutual respect.
Mr. Raji Yahaya represents the kind of dedicated officer whose contribution may sometimes go unnoticed, but whose efforts leave a lasting impact. Without mincing words, it was no surprise that the Management and Staff of Gateway International Airport came out in their numbers to give Mr. Raji Yahaya a befitting pull-out from service as he retired.
The large turnout was a clear demonstration of the respect, affection, and appreciation his colleagues and associates have for him. It was a fitting way to honour a man who dedicated 35 years of his life to public service and the aviation industry.
As Mr. Raji Yahaya begins this new chapter of his life, his colleagues, friends, mentees, and well-wishers wish him a happy, peaceful, and fulfilling retirement. His years of dedicated service will remain a part of his enduring legacy, while the officers he trained and mentored will continue to carry forward the knowledge and values he instilled in them.
