The governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Bolaji Marie Odusina, has appealed to Christians in Ogun State to support her ambition to become the next governor of the state in the 2027 governorship election.

Odusina made the appeal on Sunday when she visited All Saints Anglican Church, Kemta-Kobiti, Abeokuta, Ogun State, as part of her consultations ahead of the election.

She was accompanied on the visit by the NDC deputy governorship candidate, Hon. Adeyemi Yunus Adesina, as she sought the support and prayers of the church members for her political ambition.

The visit came two days after Odusina visited the Ansar-U-Deen Central Mosque, where she also sought the support of Muslim men and women as part of her engagement with religious communities across the state.

Addressing the church members, Odusina urged them to rally behind her candidacy, saying the time had come for Ogun State to produce a female governor. 

She appealed to residents to support her in breaking what she described as the jinx surrounding the emergence of a woman as governor of the state.

The United States-based medical doctor said she was contesting the governorship election because of her desire to improve the lives of residents, promising that she would not disappoint the people if elected.

Odusina said her commitment to the people of Ogun State predated her decision to contest the governorship election, recalling that she had organised medical outreaches where residents benefited from free medical services and drugs.

She said, “I am a woman, I am a doctor, I am a mother. I have organised medical outreaches for many people. I started in Ake, Abeokuta, where many people benefited from the programme, even before showing interest in the race. I sat down one-on-one with people during the programme. I have been doing it since 2007. I have contributed immemsely to humanity in Ogun State and beyond.

The NDC candidate urged the church members to spread her message and encourage other residents to support her, saying, “What I am asking from you is that you should tell people and preach my gospel. Let them know it is the turn of a woman this time. Men have been doing it, but if you elect me, I will perform beyond your expectations.”

She added that her vision for Ogun State was centred on improving the wellbeing of the people, arguing that governance should not focus solely on physical infrastructure while residents struggle with hunger and hardship. “It is not about constructing roads when people are hungry and suffering. We are in darkness in Ogun State, but I have come to lighten up this state,” Odusina said
