…As Monarch Set to Celebrate 5th Anniversary on October 18

The Onirete of Irete-Ijebu, HRH Oba (Dr.) Abdulganiu Olusegun Awokoya-Yesufu, Otufesojoye Adetutu I, has expressed appreciation to the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for approving his elevation to the status of a Second-Class Oba.

The monarch, who described the elevation as a significant milestone in his reign, said the development was not only an honour to him but also a recognition of the traditional institution and the people of Irete-Ijebu.

Oba Awokoya-Yesufu made this known during separate courtesy visits to the Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, and the Secretary to the Ogun State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, at their respective offices in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

The monarch commended Governor Abiodun for what he described as his administration’s commitment to the growth and development of traditional institutions across the state.

According to him, the elevation would further strengthen the cultural identity of Irete-Ijebu and create greater opportunities for the traditional institution to contribute meaningfully to the development and welfare of the people.

Oba Awokoya-Yesufu also expressed gratitude to the Ogun State Government, traditional rulers, community leaders, indigenes and residents of Irete-Ijebu for their support, cooperation and goodwill throughout his reign.

Meanwhile, the Onirete is set to celebrate the fifth anniversary of his ascension to the throne on October 18, 2026.

The monarch used the occasion of his visits to extend an invitation to Governor Abiodun and members of the State Executive Council to the anniversary celebration.

According to Oba Awokoya-Yesufu, the fifth anniversary will provide an opportunity to reflect on the achievements recorded during the past five years, celebrate the progress of the Irete-Ijebu community, and appreciate individuals and groups that have contributed to its development.

The monarch reaffirmed his commitment to promoting peace, unity and development in Irete-Ijebu, pledging to continue working with relevant stakeholders to advance the welfare and progress of his people.

He also called on the people of Irete-Ijebu to remain united and support initiatives aimed at advancing the community, stressing that sustainable development could only be achieved through collective effort, cooperation and mutual understanding.

Among those who accompanied the monarch on the courtesy visits were Alhaja (High Chief) Ogoji Idayat Tope, Iyalode of Irete-Ijebu; Otunba (Hon.) Olumide Adesanya, Otunba Jadiara of Irete-Ijebu; Hon. Justice ’Tayo Lamina; Alhaji (Chief) Ayodele Yayah Olayinka, Tayese of Irete-Ijebu and Prince (Elder) Adegbesan Stephen.
