The Ogun State House of Assembly has invited the Head of Fire Services in the State and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs to appear before it on Friday, 23rd of October, 2026 for an engagement relating to the operations, facilities and state of fire stations across the state.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, issued the invitation, following a Matter of Urgent Public Importance raised by a member representing Ijebu East State Constituency, Hon. Waliu Owode, over a fire outbreak at Itele Market recently, resulting in the loss of property and means of livelihood.
Reporting the incident at today's plenary, Hon. Owode lamented that the affected individuals and other residents of his constituency had repeatedly called on the government and relevant agencies for assistance.
Also, the Speaker has invited the State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Comptroller of Works in the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) and the contractor handling the Abeokuta–Sango-Ota Expressway to appear before the Assembly on Tuesday, 27th October, 2026 to address persistent traffic congestion along the Brewery, Ita-Oshin and Idi-Ori axis of the road.
The invitation followed the presentation of a member representing Abeokuta North State Constituency, Hon. Babatunde Tella, who spoke under personal explanation and attributed the congestion partly to the large roundabouts along the affected road, and called for their reduction to create more space for motorists.
The lawmaker had reported that the gridlock being caused along the axis needed to be addressed to ease traffic at pick periods.
In another development, the Speaker has invited the State Commissioner for Environment and his team, the State Environmental Protection Agency and other relevant agencies to appear before the House on Wednesday, 28th of October, 2026 over the reported leak of a suspected gaseous substance that led to the hospitalisation of some school children in Ijebu-Ode and its environs.
The invitation followed a report by a member representing Odogbolu State Constituency, Hon. Lukman Adeleye, who noted that similar incident had previously been reported in the area.
While commending the relevant agencies for their efforts in managing the previous incidents, Hon. Adeleye stressed the need for them to interface with the State lawmakers to explain the measures being put in place to prevent future occurrence, and identify areas where additional support would be required.
