Pensioners in Ogun State have been assured of adequate welfare support and appreciable attention if Hon Oladipupo Adebutu is elected as Governor of Ogun State.
Prof. Iyabo Obasanjo, the PDP Ogun Central Senatorial Candidate stated this at a parley with members of the Local Government Pensioners Association of Nigeria, (LOGPAN) Ogun State Chapter today in Abeokuta the State Capital.
Senator Obasanjo commended the pensioners for their years of dedicated service but raised concerns over issues affecting their welfare.
Dissatisfied with the situations surrounding pensioners’ delayed entitlements and lack of appropriate remuneration from the present administration, which she observed was not enough to accommodate them for a better life after retirement.
She noted that pension funds meant for retired workers should not be withheld, stressing that pensioners deserve to enjoy the benefits of their years of service while alive and healthy.
She assured the pensioners that a new direction is possible, promising to work towards positive changes if elected as the Senator representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, alongside Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu as the elected Governor of Ogun State.
Speaking on her return to politics, Prof. Iyabo Obasanjo explained that she returned to active public service after being encouraged by people based on her integrity, and records of her earlier contributions as a Commissioner in the state and one time Senator representing Ogun Central in recent past.
She pledged her readiness to improve the lots of the citizenry and make life worthwhile.
Prof. Obasanjo added:
"My decision for this contest is driven by a strong desire to serve the people and not for personal financial gains unlike others.
This is because of my conviction that public resources and allocations due for my State should be effectively used for the benefits of the people and their well-being in all ramifications."
Responding, the LOGPAN Chairman for Abeokuta South and Abeokuta North, Alhaji Sulaimon Gbolagade Popoola commended Prof. Iyabo Obasanjo for her records of service as Commissioner for Health in Ogun State.
He recalled Iyabo's penchant for transparency and accountability of government when she dispensed her responsibility with kindness, merit and passion for excellence unlike in today’s Nigeria, where personal connections often determine employment opportunities, particularly in the health sector.
He described Prof. Iyabo Obasanjo as exceptional, noting that her work and contributions during her time as Commissioner for Health continue to speak for her.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the pensioners to express their concerns and for Prof. Obasanjo to reiterate her position on accountability, public service and the need to prioritise the welfare of retired workers.
