Maintain International Best Practices or Risk Being Closed up, Efuwape Tells Orphanages

Orphanages in Ogun state have been charged to maintain international best practices in the discharge of their services to the orphans in their care or risk being closed up.

The State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Funmi Efuwape gave the charge during the monitoring exercise to private Orphanages across the state.

Efuwape further stated that the state should not just glorify in having many Orphanages that were not performing up to expectations adding that where necessary, some may have to be merged or closed up if  the need be.

"Having so many Orphanages in the state is not the major thing, with the overview of what I have so far, we may have to merger some or collapse some that are failing in maintaining the international best practices," Efuwape said.

Out of the 33 Orphanages visited across the three senatorial districts were Ijamido Children Home, Ota, in Ogun West, Kings Heritage Missionary Children Home, Ijebu Ode, in Ogun East and Gideon Orphanage, Abeokuta in Ogun Central among others.
