Ogun Police to Okada Riders: Failure to Register your Motorcycle would lead to Prosecution.



As part of Security Measures and having a Database of Okada Riders, the Ogun state police command has directed that all commercial motorcycles in Ogun state must register their motorcycles or be Prosecuted.


The Enforcement for the prosecution would begin from October 1st, 2021.


This was disclose by the Ogun state Police Public Relation Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi in a press conference organised by the commercials Motorcycle Riders identification scheme(COMORIS) in Abeokuta.


Oyeyemi said the serious influx of Okada Riders in the state and increase in criminal activities by some motorcycle riders neccesitated the decision that every Okada Riders in the State must be Properly registered.


" There must be a data base for the Okada Riders that Operates in the state, by so doing this will give us the Accurate Number of Okada Riders we have in the state. The registration will include, Area of residence, Names, registration number and a reflective jacket which will have their Registration number inscribe on it. Once anyone commit crime using Okada, we will be able to quickly Apprehend who is actually responsible for the crime." He said.

While explaining the purpose of the registration, Oyeyemi said the registration will enable to know those that are not Okada riders but using it for another purpose because it is the general believe that a motorcycle is an easy means of commiting Crime saying it can be use as a get away tools whenever crime is commited.


He said the registration is a collaboration with the state Government as well as the leadership of all the Okada Association adding that it has been agreed that the registration is compulsory. We have given a time limit for registration and the enforcement will be effective from first October 2021.


He further said any Okada riders who fail to properly document his presence here in Ogun would probably have his motorcycle apprehended.


The Chairman of the COMORIS, Mr Juwon Adebajo said the compliance drive would be effective from October 1st and enjoined all riders to register before the due date.


He disclose that the  registration fee is N2000 only.
